On December 1st, in front of Building 3, Unit 4, Labor No.2 Village in the Minzhu Village area of Xiejiawan, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, a banner reading "Elevators Lead to Happiness, Enjoy Convenient Life" stood out brightly under the warm winter sun. Dressed in their best clothes, residents gathered together with staff from the subdistrict and community, as well as the Geer Elevator team, to witness the long-awaited elevator handover ceremony. After going through application, coordination and construction, the 32 households finally bid farewell to the hardship of climbing stairs and embraced a happy life with "one-touch direct access".

Elevator Installation in Old Buildings: From "Difficulties in Climbing Stairs" to "Ladders of Happiness"
Aunt Chen, like most residents in this building, is a retired employee of Chongqing Construction Factory and has lived and worked in Minzhu Village her entire life.
"We moved into this eight-story family building in 1994. When we moved, everyone pitched in to plant a row of Ficus virens trees downstairs, and everyone envied us back then."
However, as time goes by, both the new buildings and the neighborhood residents have gradually aged, with the inconvenience of residents going up and down stairs being the most prominent problem. In recent years, old residential buildings have suffered from various inconveniences due to outdated facilities.
Aunt Chen lives on the seventh floor. Every time she climbs the stairs home, she has to stop and rest repeatedly, taking a full 20 minutes. Her son, who suffers from gout, complains bitterly as soon as he gets home. "Even my grandson often asks, Grandma, when will you have an elevator installed?"
As the building director, what pains Aunt Chen even more is that there are three households with disabled people in this building, including a disabled couple who have not gone downstairs for several years due to the lack of an elevator.
Last April, during his inspection tour of Minzhu Village Community in Jiulongpo District, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that in Chinese modernization, people's wellbeing is of paramount importance. All the work of the Party and the government is aimed at enabling the people to live a happier life. He expressed the hope that Party committees and governments at all levels will invest more financial and material resources in addressing issues related to people's livelihood, deliver a number of practical projects for the people every year, and continuously enhance the people's sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security.

Installing elevators has long been a highly anticipated project for everyone. Aunt Chen took the lead in submitting the application, yet encountered numerous obstacles: residents on lower floors were concerned about lighting issues and noise, and elevator site selection was hindered by complex terrain... Faced with these conflicts, the subdistrict and community launched a "four-party consultation" mechanism, bringing together departments of planning, housing and urban-rural development, electric power, as well as resident representatives. After more than 20 on-site surveys and negotiations, technical difficulties were finally overcome and a consensus was reached. Aunt Chen "live-streamed" the progress in the homeowners' group every day, earning herself the title of "hero supervisor" in the hearts of the residents.

Thanks to the joint efforts of all parties, the Gore Elevator has been successfully completed and put into use, delivering a satisfactory result to all levels of departments and the majority of residents. This elevator not only operates smoothly, safely and reliably, but also fully meets the diverse needs of community residents in terms of design and functions. In the future, it will serve the residents quietly like a considerate partner, greatly improving the quality of life in the community.
